‘Following numerous trips around the world on boats, planes, cars, bikes, buses, and on foot, I managed to find life’s meaning via solidarity. I reached the age where most people strive to fit into society’s ideal mould: finish education, get a stable job and settle down and start a family. I started off following the crowd doing what society expected from me, working in real estate. However this was not my path, I needed a purpose. I needed to find life’s meaning. 

I visited Nepal in 2007. One evening I witnessed a burglary committed by children of the street, it was then I decided I wanted to help them. I met a woman who was passionate about looking after children coming from the street who welcomed me with open arms into her orphanage. After spending time at the orphanage and getting to know the children, I made a promise to them that I will come back to Nepal to see them.

Years passed and something was telling me I needed to go back, I couldn’t shake the feeling so I booked my ticket and arrived in Nepal at the beginning of January 2015. I had booked a return ticket for the beginning of April, however I decided to stay for longer as I had not finished the project that I had started -  building a kitchen for the orphanage. However as many of you know disaster struck Nepal on the 25th April 2015. The earthquake destroyed the kitchen we had built, however no one was hurt. It was on this day that the organisation ‘Les Enfants de Kavresthali’ came to be. https://www.lesenfantsdekavresthali.com 

I have dedicated everything into this organisation focusing on helping women and children and all the hard work has definitely paid off. We have set up two nursery classes in a local village, a coffee and honey farm and our organisation has helped to train 40 women in the art of sewing and following the training we funded, for the current 13 women who are motivated to continue working, I would like to give them some equitable work and for that we are looking for international clientele. My objective is to create a link between the women, who have already been trained via ‘Les Enfants de Kavresthali,’ and future clientele to allow them to have a consistent amount of work and earn a set wage. Giving them jobs will not only help to add value to their creations, it will help them become independent and able to provide for themselves and their families.’

Our Story…

 

  • Since 2018, 40 women have completed a training on sewing, adapted to their daily lives and responsibilities within their families. After their training was completed, those who wished received a microcredit from the organisation, if desired, to buy a sewing machine. Then they were asked to sign a contract to ensure they are committed to the project. In 2021, we received our first order from our French partner Cannaoa “Organiquement votre” which translates to ‘organically yours.’

  • The women are given orders to complete and are well paid for the work they carry out in a system of fair trade. We believe that women should be paid and treated equally to men in the professional world as they are, without fail, paid less than their male employees. Often families in Nepal depend on the husband’s job as their only source of income, therefore we offer the opportunity to allow women to be independent, as they earn their own money to provide for themselves and their families without having to depend on their husband.

  • Like ‘Organiquement Votre’ and ‘Maya Santi’ you too can become partners supporting fair trade. Our goal is to create environmental and social change through providing women with jobs here in Nepal and soon in more countries in Asia and to contribute to looking after our planet by minimising waste.

    We are also looking for donations to contribute to the project, your donations will help us to support our future sewing training programmes and offer young school girls sanitation kits including three reusable pads and simultaneously create jobs for women.
